But we have this treasure in clay jars to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not abandoned struck down but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:7-9.
Jars of clay in the context of the day, were everyday ordinary vessels used daily for various chores and reasons.
As individuals living in the world, Paul likens us to jars of clay. We are living and doing in life, what we normally do. Some jars become cracked and no longer usable, some are new, strong and resilient. No matter what kind of jar we are, at any particular time, there is a wonderful treasure within, that is God’s power, strength, peace, comfort, whatever we may name it. This treasure comes from within.
Be encouraged, though physically, we may be in need of repair, the inner treasure is what keeps us going, to do what needs to be done one step at a time.
As ordinary people, a life lived with Christ, becomes extraordinary!
